Hospice is about living each day to its fullest even in the face of a life-limiting illness. Hospice is a compassionate, patient-centered approach to end-of-life care that addresses the needs of patients and families facing end-of-life issues. We focus on comfort and dignity and provide physical comfort as well as emotional and spiritual support to patients and their family. Hospice is a philosophy of care that helps patients live fully and comfortably at home. Care may be provided in the patient’s home, an assisted living facility, or in an inpatient setting.
Currently, only one in three people eligible for hospice receives this care. Hospice services are fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. These services also include medications, medical supplies, and equipment related to the patient’s hospice diagnosis.
